What to expect on your first visit:

Entering a new environment can be overwhelming for your child and your family. At ABA4U we want to ensure that your first experience is as pleasant and positive as possible. Although we cannot guarantee that your child will have a perfect first visit, we will do our best to make your family feel comfortable and welcome.

During the initial assessment at the ABA4U Clinic our Board Certified Behavior Analysts will spend time getting to know your child and your family. Your child will be led to our assessment room where the BCBA will discover how your child is motivated, how he/she likes to play and interact, and what specific challenges he/she may have. It is always helpful to bring highly preferred items and reinforcers from home, including small edibles. Items from home may also help your child feel more comfortable in this new environment.

Once your child has warmed up to the new environment and our clinical team, a variety of assessments will be conducted to obtain the most accurate and objective information on your child’s skill level and current level of functioning. Our BCBA’s use various assessments depending on the age and current level of your child. The most common assessments used are the VB-MAPP and the Curriculum Skills Assessment from the New England Center for Children. Assessments will be conducted in a play setting with preferred items and a high rate of reinforcement provided by our team to ensure that your child has as positive an experience as possible and displays an accurate representation of his/her abilities.

Our Case Manager will meet with you to discuss your families unique goals and needs. It is helpful if all of your paperwork is filled out beforehand so that we may have as much knowledge about your case as possible before we meet. It is possible to watch the assessment while you are meeting with the Case Manager via one way observation windows or a live video feed.
